Application Requirements

All applicants must complete and submit the on-line application form. Eligible applicants will be contacted by our Call Center after they submit their on-line application to schedule an interview. The required documents listed below must be submitted to our department in case the applicant is admitted to the program..

  • Online Application Form
  • A 4-year undergraduate degree or equivalent
  • A master degree (if available)
  • Official Transcript
  • ALES or/and GMAT or/and GRE score
  • GMAT or/and GRE score
  • Two Letters of Recommendation
  • Statement of Purpose
  • Proof of English proficiency

In the interview, the applicants will be asked to present their academic and professional backgrounds in detail and discuss their motives for applying to the programs and their future career plans. Applicants are strongly advised to submit a statement of purpose of 500 words or less, written in English and two reference letters in the interview.

Official Transcripts

Please submit official transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate course work taken. We only accept official transcripts submitted in sealed envelopes from the registrar's office of your university. Transcripts must show the names, codes, dates and the grades received for all completed coursework.

Note: a Baccalaureate Degree from an Accredited Institution is required for admission.

Test Scores

All students must submit ALES and/or GRE General Exam and/or GMAT test scores. The minimum requirements are:

  • ALES ≥ 70 (PhD), 55 (MSc) or
  • GMAT ≥ 500 (PhD), 450 (MSc) or
  • GRE (quantitative) ≥ 153 (PhD), 149 (MSc)

Proof of English Proficiency

Minimum requirements for the accepted language proficiency tests are as follows:

  • TOEFL IBT ≥ 94 (PhD), 72 (MSc) or
  • BİLET (BİLGİ English Test) ≥ 70 (MSc) or
  • YDS ≥ 78 (PhD), 60 (MSc)

Letters of Recommendation

We require two letters of recommendation. These may be obtained from professors who are familiar with your academic history. All letters must be originals with original signatures of the recommending person. Letters without signatures will not be accepted.

Statement of Purpose

The statement of purpose may contain a discussion of the reasons for applying to the graduate program, how your educational and professional background relate to the program, your short- and long-term professional objectives and how a graduate degree in Economics from İstanbul Bilgi University may be beneficial regarding the attainment of those objectives, how you plan on contributing to the quality of education while you are enrolled in the program, etc.

Research Interest (only for the applicants of the Ph.D Program)

The applicants of the PhD program are required to submit their research interests which they plan to work on for their PhD thesis. Please note that stating a major subfield of economics (i.e. macroeconomics, microeconomics) is not sufficient and more specification is required. The applicants are also asked to choose two members of the faculty (in the order according to their preference) that they would like to work with as their thesis supervisors.
